Pope Gregory Consulted Catherine on Important Matters

Did you know that in 1376, when Pope Gregory was returning to Rome from Avingon, his cardinals told him to turn back. Gregory remembered that Catherine was staying near by. So he left his trusted advisors and went to this small uneducated woman for advice. She convinced him to hurry on to the eternal city.


Gregory disguised himself when he went to Catherine. I think it was a bit of pride on his part. Not wanting to appear as one of the ordinary supplicants.
